In 1926,
a crowd eagerly awaited as The Jayhawk Theatre opened
to the city of Topeka. The lights dimmed and the
crowd quieted as the sounds of the majestic theatre
pipe organ filled the hall. The music rose to the
rafters as silver images danced across the movie
screen. Rumbling bass, brilliant trumpets, soft
flutes, drums and cymbals - all became part of the
extravagant movie experience.
Today, that grand hall sits
quiet with its organ chambers empty. Soon, however,
the melodic strains of a new organ will accompany
film classics and other events.
The
Jayhawk Theatre Organ Funds are ways of providing
the theatre with a world-class pipe organ and
allowing the community to hear the music and learn
how to play the organ. Become a part of The Jayhawk
Theatre's musical heritage.
The Jayhawk Theatre takes
pride in a unique "Mission
Statement" for the installation and use
of its theatre pipe organ. The Board of Directors
is also committed to making the organ
a hands-on instrument for the education of youth.
