The
Original Kilgen "Wonder" Theatre Pipe Organ in the Jayhawk Theatre The Kilgen Console as it appeared on opening day, 1926 The Jayhawk's first organist, Miss Bernice Hemus, as seated at the Kilgen in a publicity photo, 1926 ...and a Kilgen ad as it appeared in the November 21, 1925 Motion Picture News. This same model as shown, was ordered and installed in the Jayhawk in March, 1926. Oddly enough, the chambers were constructed to exact 16 foot ceilings and the installers had to cut them open at the top to accommodate the the 16' pipes, plus the height of the chests. This meant that the voicing of the lower pipes actually sounded into the rafters rather than through the openings and into the theatre. |
